The Knowledge Level is the first stage of the ACCA qualification. It introduces students to the basic principles of accounting, finance, and business, forming a strong foundation for higher-level ACCA papers. This level also leads to the certificate of the Diploma in Accounting and Business, recognising the successful completion of the foundational papers.
This level is ideal for beginners or students with little or no background in accounting.
Papers at Knowledge Level
The Knowledge Level consists of three papers:
- Business and Technology (BT)
- Understanding how businesses operate
- Organizational structure and management
- Role of accountants in business
- Basics of governance, ethics and technology
- Financial Accounting (FA)
- Fundamentals of financial accounting
- Recording business transactions
- Preparation of financial statements
- Understanding accounting concepts and standards
- Management Accounting (MA)
- Costing techniques and budgeting
- Financial planning and control
- Decision-making using cost information
- Performance measurement
ACCA Level 1 (Applied Knowledge) usually takes 3 to 9 months to complete.
ACCA Level 1 includes 3 papers:
- BT – Business and Technology
- MA – Management Accounting
- FA – Financial Accounting
- ACCA exams are flexible and held 4 times a year
- Level 1 has only 3 papers, which are foundation-level
- You can choose to attempt 1 paper per session
